How to Build a More Engaging Newsletter
Company newsletters are an excellent way to keep clients, friends and leads up to date. They allow companies to share their accomplishments and announcements. At Elevate My Brand, we use our newsletter to share case studies, announce new clients, promote events and share awards, blogs and podcast episodes.
Follow these five tips to learn how to create an email newsletter that will stand out and engage your network.
Punch Up the Headline
Give your audience a reason to read your story. If the headlines for each newsletter section aren’t interesting, most people will skim over the story. Elevate My Brand has a very distinct voice. We try to incorporate humor and levity into our headlines.
Captivate With a Call to Action
In most newsletters, there’s a landing page that you want your audience to visit or an event you’d like them to sign up for. Create interest with a unique or fun call to action. For example: Instead of “Click Here” or “Register Here,” use a fun phrase, such as “Feeling FOMO?”
Stay Short and Sweet
Don’t bore your audience with lengthy descriptions. We keep the Elevate My Brand newsletter sections short, fun and informative. I try to put myself in the audience’s shoes when crafting the newsletter copy. Would I read a wordy, four-paragraph email? Absolutely not.
Standardize
We send our newsletters out on the same date each month. Keeping your email newsletter send date consistent will make reading it a habit for your audience. It’s also important to keep the format the same for each newsletter. We put new imagery and stories in our newsletter each month to switch it up, obviously, but even our newsletter graphics are standardized. We place each image in a template so we are consistent month over month.
Imagery
This goes without saying, but the photos and graphics that you use in your newsletter should be high quality and visually appealing. No one wants to look at a fuzzy photo or squint to see a video. Not cute! The newsletter reflects the whole company, so it should look polished.
