Hi everyone, Laurel Mintz here with Elevate My Brand. What the heck is this Metaverse thing, and more importantly, what does marketing look like, or what will it look like in the Metaverse?
So first, let’s talk about what the Metaverse actually is. It is an immersive digital environment. I know that that might seem like a bunch of just jargon words, but think about like Fortnite. It’s a world that is kind’ve evergreen, always on, real-time, and populated by avatars. So avatars represent real people, so you would have your own avatar, your own person within the Metaverse and so could a brand. It exists in real-time, which is why it’s a very exciting platform, and it’s about having or giving rather, individuals, unique and individual agencies. So they can move around in these Metaverses as they see fit and it’s fully self contained. It’s basically like an entire universe but just digital. That’s the easiest way to explain it.
The other really exciting thing about the Metaverse is that it’s really focused on UGC or User Generated Content. Which, if you know about marketing at all, you’ll know that this is a really unique way that brands are targeting Gen Z and Millenials. And of course, the Metaverse is a very young, energetic, new place that brands are flocking to to try and wrap their hands around more of that Gen Z/Millennial audience cause that’s where they are.
So that’s one of the important things to note is that it is an evergreen or real-time environment that’s digital. There are all of these avatars, so the same person that you would try and connect with as a Millennial or Gen Z outside in the real world, you can do the same thing within these digital environments, these immersive environments. It’s new and faster in terms of connecting the dots cause everyone is so excited about it. And it really supports fast growing communities. So if you’re trying to build a community around a brand, it might be a really interesting opportunity for you to look inside of the Metaverse or build something for the Metaverse accordingly.
Now, it’s really not something that we have done a lot of work within, and there are not that many case studies out there showing the valuable outcomes, but just think about it like any other new platform. Like social media for example. I don’t know about you, but I was not personally an early adopter on Twitter or even Instagram for that matter. Those that are early adopters within these new environments or within these new channels are often the big winners.
So just a few things to think about as you dive into learning more about the Metaverse. I hope that I have at least explained it. It’s been basically like it could be your house but in a digital environment. It could be, you know a restaurant but in a digital environment. And so when you think about things like conferences or product launches, things like that, that's when it starts to get really really exciting. So we will keep you up to date as we learn more about the Metaverse, but I hope that’s given you a little snapshot, a little taste of why it might be a really exciting marketing opportunity.
