EMBiz: Marketing Is an Investment, Not an Expense

Laurel Mintz, CEO & Founder

Hi guys, Laurel Mintz here. We’re taking a new topic approach this week and we’re going to talk about how to make your money work for you. You know, we talk a lot about marketing as an investment not as an expense, and it’s a really important approach for you to think of your marketing in that way and to make sure that you’re spending your money, especially as it relates to your marketing, in a really smart way. So I thought I would give you the top three areas where we think you should be spending your marketing dollars.

Number 1 - Great Branding. You only get one chance to make a first impression and it’s got to be a good one. We know there is so much noise out there. If your brand isn’t powerful and stands for something and is memorable, then you’re going to have a hard time converting and capturing your audience.

Number 2 - Advertising. So now you’ve got this great branding, but how are you going to get it out to that audience? It’s no longer if you build it they will come, we have to spend money on advertising not only so that we can test and iterate through who we believe your audience is, but what that messaging, positioning, branding and how it’s received by that audience and is backed by metrics. So advertising spend is absolutely critical.

Number 3, of course, is Great Content. Whenever we have clients that come to us and ask what is the best use of their dollar spend, the least expensive way for them to create traction with their brand is to create great content. And that’s as simple as doing what we are doing here today: setting up an iPhone, a couple of good lights, some good makeup, and making sure that your brand is really heard.

That’s how you make your marketing money work for you. That’s all for now. Stay tuned for more from Elevate My Brand.
