60 Buzzwords To Retire In 2021

Hi guys Laurel Mintz here with Elevate My Brand. Today’s episode is actually going to be a little fun. We’re going to talk about words to retire in your marketing for 2021. There have been so many things people have repeated ad nauseam in 2020 because of the current situation and here are the ones that we believe need to be retired. No more!

First is “unprecedented”. How sick are we of using the word “unprecedented”?  We get it - it’s weird, it’s challenging, we’re still in it. I understand. Done with “unprecedented”.

The next word is “uncertain”. The truth is life is uncertain! Business is uncertain! Everything is uncertain. If there was a way to definitively know what was going to happen in the future for your brand or even for you personally, then you’d be a billionaire and I need you on my team. So no more “uncertain”.

The next one is “pivot”. “Pivot” frankly just reminds me of that Friends episode if you’re in that world or in that era with me. But honestly every brand has had to pivot and it’s just a word that is so overused and I’m so sick of it and I’m sure that you are too.

The next one is one that you guys know that I, even before 2020 was just sick of, and that is “authentic”. You need to show up and be true to who you are and your brand and not pretend to be perfect. We talked about that in one of the prior episodes. We are done with “authentic” so if you have any suggestions for replacements for any of these words, I am all ears.

And the last one is “new normal” or “next normal”. Again, these buzzwords that everyone has been using to try and project out what’s going to happen. We’re all sick of it. We don’t need jargon in our marketing. We don’t need you to qualify what you’re going to say next. We are all in this together and we are all experiencing this. So we are banishing these words during these “uncertain” times. I would love to hear from you - what new words or statements are you using in your marketing to address what’s currently happening?
